Version 1.0 Latest
2026-10-19
The first public release.
New
- Turns a 27″ 5K iMac (2017 or later, or Late 2015 with an adapter) into a display for an Apple silicon Mac over one Thunderbolt cable, at the full 5120 × 2880.
- The iMac's keyboard, mouse and speakers control and play your Mac.
- The iMac sleeps and wakes with your Mac, and works with the Mac's lid closed.
- Setup checklists on both Macs, with buttons that open the exact System Settings page to fix each item.
- Free 7-day trial, then a one-time license key (works on two of your Macs). Reminders near the end, and the iMac says when the trial is over.
- The MacBook app tells you when a new version is available.
- Connects only over the Thunderbolt cable, never over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, so nothing else on your network can pose as your other Mac.
Fixed during testing
- The iMac no longer freezes or needs the keyboard and mouse replugged after a long sleep.
- A second, frozen pointer no longer lingers on the iMac after waking.
- Sound no longer pops when it starts and stops.
Checking the download: the SHA-256 checksum of Re5k 1.0 is b0ee5ebc371c6f77fbe3be2e92b96a312d03b71c4072bc5d552dfc89f92efbed. To check yours, open Terminal and run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Re5k.dmg. The two should match.
Updating: download the latest version, then replace both apps: Re5k (MacBook) on your Mac and Re5k (iMac) on the iMac. Your license and settings stay. Both Macs need the same version to connect. Questions: support@re5k.app
